What the “Practice” is all about…
Welcome! I’m Dr. Brandon Keilman, movement coach and licensed physical therapist in Winter Park, Florida, and creator of the life-changing online course, Athlete Reborn: The Complete Guide to Reclaiming Pain-Free, Natural Athleticism. Thanks for being here!
Have you ever asked yourself these questions?
- Why do I still have pain even though I feel I’ve tried everything?
- Why do I keep getting the same injuries over and over again?
- Why don’t I feel like my old self after my injury even though I went through traditional rehab and did everything they told me?
- How do I unlock the next level when my performance has been plateaued for awhile?
Regardless of where you're at right now, you're in the right place!
The questions above are the same questions I was frustrated with when I struggled with an 8+ year cycle of chronic pain and recurring injury, hitting wall after wall in my progress despite doing all the “right things.”
Now I own and operate a small cash-pay, movement-based physical therapy clinic out of a local CrossFit gym, but I started in a big hospital-based clinic and saw all the failings of the traditional model first hand (more on that in a minute).
My online courses exist to help athletes and active people just like you break the cycle and feel confident in their body again.
I’ve been training myself for over 25 years and others for almost 20 years, 8 of those as a PT, so I’ve seen just about everything out there (and even cycles of old concepts becoming popular again!)
I’ve been involved in sports since I could walk, playing soccer, then landing on primarily basketball and volleyball, but played almost everything else for fun as well and I LOVE having the freedom to play with my boys in any capacity you can imagine.
It wasn’t always that way though…
Doc’s journey from wrecked to resilient
When I was 17, I began an 8+ year long journey stuck in a cycle of chronic pain and recurring injury in multiple body regions.
And it all started with a high ankle sprain when I landed on an opposing player’s foot when he crossed the midline during a volleyball game
I came back too soon and didn’t realize the restrictions caused by that injury (and not addressing it properly) would send me down that miserable road and the following laundry list of injuries/recurring pains over the years:
- Severe back pain with an intermittently numb big toe for 8+ years
- Femoroacetabular impingement and hip labral tears
- Left shoulder labral tear and shoulder impingement both sides
- R knee MCL tear, meniscus tears on both sides
- Runner’s knee, Jumper’s knee and IT Band syndrome
- Neck pain with tingling into my hands
- Groin Strain
- Achilles tendonitis
- Posterior tibial tendonitis
- And more…
I was a mess!
We’re not alone…the cards are stacked against us…
The sobering truth is that the traditional medical, rehab and training industries failed me and are failing you.
With 80% of people experiencing back pain in their life, 80% of runners getting injured from something as fundamentally human as running and joint replacements expected to rise as much as 682% by 2030, it's clear we've veered far off course and it doesn't seem like we're finding our way back home any time soon.
So…what's the answer?
The Way Back Home
Well, I wish it wasn't this simple, (and remember…simple doesn't mean easy), but the answer is found within us already.
We just have to remember where we came from.
Let me explain…
As kids we moved with complete freedom...fully mobile, anti-fragile and always ready to move without warm-up.
We ALL go through a logical series of events or progressions called milestones that take us from babies with minimal control over anything to mini-elite athletes by the age of 6.
The people that retain these qualities can be found in barefoot, non-modernized indigenous cultures and the most durable great athletes and elders.
It took me over 10 years of tinkering with my body, testing every movement system under the sun and training others for years to realize that all traditional industries have overcomplicated things and completely missed the boat as a result.
Everything we could possibly need, from rehab to strength and flexibility training to elite sports performance, can be found in the childhood neurodevelopmental sequence.
And I'm blessed enough to get a front row seat to that by watching my boys grow up every single day.
Those other movement systems gave me benefit and made my approach better than standard care, but studying my kids and child development in general gave me context and clarity that not only restored myself so that I move better as I turn 40 in January 2024 than I did as a teenager, but offered the most powerful tool I’ve come across to help others as well…
The answer, as it seems, is to stop overcomplicating things by working against our natural design and start working with it instead
My God-given mission...
I believe God put me through those 8+ years of feeling stuck so that you don't have to.
What took me over a decade to figure out and another decade to refine, takes my clients just a fraction of that time because we have the process to re-discover how powerful we can feel in our own bodies.
If you're feeling stuck like I was, please know that there is hope.
I believe you too can regain your natural movement freedom and effortless athleticism by simply working with your natural design and using this framework of retracing your developmental steps to plug the holes in your ship and reach your true potential for life.
I've created this FREE 12-page guide that details the exact process I went through and what my clients use to overcome chronic pain, recurring injury and plateaued performance.
